1397755805[1]On my way to the gym I felt a twinge in my throat and sinus that made me worry that it could be the first sign of oncoming illness.  I felt sort of weak for awhile during my workout although I’m not sure if it was just mind over body, making me feel worse because I thought I might be getting ill.  Late in the workout I recalled that shortly before I left for the gym I had a combo burp/hiccup thing that managed to get me choking a bit, requiring a prolonged coughing session until it calmed down.  Perhaps all I feel is the end result of some stomach acid getting thrown up in areas it normally doesn’t belong.

Today’s Workout

5 minutes cardio/stretching

79932c2c929627bd0443d94893dec332[1]Ever since I joined the Wellness Center pull ups had lost focus in my routine.  When I added in my two weeks away on the road trip it got even worse when I got back, I found myself no longer able to complete a set of 20 pull ups.  For the first week or so I was capped at 18 reps.  Then on Wednesday this week I got number 19.  Today I finally got back to the 20 mark, a place I never want to sink below.  It took a lot of hanging and straining to get that 20th rep but it was worth it.

The rest of the workout was a mix of things that were not performed in the exact order listed below.

Today’s Workout

5 minutes cardio/stretching

20 pull ups

Dip bar knee raises x 20

60 second wall hand stand

Ab crunch machine 110lbs x 12

30 second one arm wall hand stand x 30 secs (each arm)

Hanging L-sit hold – 20 seconds

Wide wall hand stand 60 seconds

Weighted pull up 45lbs x 3

Frog stand 30 seconds

Elbow planche 30 seconds

Ab crunch machine 130lbs x 12

Weighted pull up 35lbs x 5

Gaining weight, time and a place

image007[1]Today at the gym there was a younger guy that was making a bit of spectacle of himself.  He had his head set on with music turned up loud enough that anyone within 10 feet of him could tell what he was listening to.  There is a problem with playing music that loud, you can’t hear yourself.  As he was doing his reps of various exercises, most of which heavily relied on bounce and momentum he was doing super loud breathing that could be heard across the very expansive gym floor of the Wellness Center.  He backed this up with doing things like beating his chest after sets, I suppose so we all knew he was in beast mode.  There is definitely a time and place for that sort of stuff, just not at the community hospital Wellness Center, duh.

I did some weighted dips for the first time in quite awhile.  Like most of my gym  performances recently, it was subpar.

Today’s Workout

5 minutes cardio/stretching

18 pull ups

Alternating front/lateral straight arm raises – 15 lbs x 12

20 dips

Standing curl – 60lbs x 12

Alternating front/lateral straight arm raises – 20 lbs x 10

45lb weighted dips x 8

Standing curl – 80 lbs x 8

Alternating front/lateral straight arm raises – 25 lbs x 8

70lbs weighted dips x 3

Standing curl – 90lbs x 6

Australian chest to bar pull ups x 10

20 diamond push ups

Alternating standing one arm bicep curl cable machine 30lbs x 12

Australian chest to bar pull ups x 10

Alternating standing one arm bicep curl cable machine 40lbs x 12

VLT.90232724[1]I was originally planning to do my normal run/bike brick but bagged it due to some issues that would be aggravated by running.  Instead I did 10 minutes of moderate intensity cardio on the cross trainer, stationary bike and recumbent bike.  Although I wasn’t as dripping with sweat as I would normally be on a brick day I still had drops hitting the floor.

I wrapped up the session with a 534 foot continuous pull on the VPX machine at the highest difficulty level.  My scalpula were BURNING.

Today’s Workout

19 pull ups

10 minutes cross trainer level 10

10 minutes stationary bike – 2.60 miles covered

10 minutes recumbent bike – 2.55 miles covered

534 foot VPX rope pull on highest resistance setting
