So one of the most ridiculous things about Planet Fitness has always been the infamous Lunk Alarm, a wall mounted siren and light that goes off when “lunk” behavior occurs, most often dropping weights or anything that creates a lot of noise.  I have seen examples of just loud grunting setting it off.  The last time I was a member of Planet Fitness the staff said the lunk alarm was not even connected anymore but still on the wall in front of the free weight area.  I never heard it go off during my second term as a PF member. (it did the first time I joined)

Well I am happy to report that it still must be disconnected based on the circumstances I saw today.  Some man was using the cable machine to do standing chest fly.  He would grab each handle and then walk his body forward a good foot or two.  After he completed each set he couldn’t be bothered with returning the handles to the starting position in a controlled manner.  Instead he would let go with the weight stack a good 6-12 inches suspended over the unused weights, causing them to crash loudly, much louder than normal lunk alarm tolerances.  The siren remained silent which I was happy to hear however I was not happy this idiot was using a weight stack as cymbals.  After he got a couple doses of WTF stinkeye from myself and others he was a little more orderly at the end of his sets.

The noise is one thing but the real problem is doing shit like that breaks the equipment which affects everyone else in the gym that wants to use it.  I have ranted on here long and hard about people that treat a public space like a gym as their own personal domain.  Be courteous you f’in morons, it isn’t that difficult.

I used some of the new Hammer Strength equipment today as part of shoulder and back day.  It seemed to be pretty solid and functional.
